Managing a construction project is a full time responsibility that takes a team of specialists to ensure all the pieces line up correctly. Budgets, schedules, contracts, materials (to name a few) must be coordinated and executed with precision to ensure the project continues to run smoothly.
UAV technology employed by Skyview Imagery is the latest advancement that can be utilized to support a project manager and design team by mapping the progress :
- Articulating to owners the progress. Week to week and month to month, many changes happen on a construction site. An owner might not have knowledge in construction to read a set of plans or understand everything that is happening during a construction progress update, but a maps and photos provide visual aids to simplify and put the project in context.
- Capturing as built conditions. What is drawn on a set of plans doesn't always end up the same in the field. When changes are made, builders have the challenge of capturing those situations which can be burdensome for everyone- Superintendents forget or leave the company, subcontractors don't document every deviation, architects don't update the plans, any number of circumstances can arise that can create discrepancies. Capturing a moment in time- before you pour the slab or cover utilities- takes all the guess work out of as-builts.
- Documentation. The unfortunate reality of construction is many projects end in litigation. Having a photographic catalog of the history of the project would be invaluable in resolving disputes.
For these reasons and more, regularly mapping a project site will relieve the burden on the design and construction teams, allowing the project manager to focus other critical items of a project.
